What is Coronavirus? COVID-19?!!
SARS-CoV-2 is the technical term for the coronavirus that has been effecting the world over the past few months.
COVID-19 is the dangerous condition that is caused as a result of SARS-CoV-2. It can be deadly, particularly for older people and those with underlying health conditions.
Where can I learn more about Coronavirus and COVID-19?
Everyone must be careful with where they are getting their information from! In order to help people stay informed, here is a list of reputable sources that I have found invaluable in staying up to date with understandable information:
Don’t Panic: The comprehensive Ars Technica guide to the coronavirus
World Health Organization (WHO)
State of Virginia government offices
District of Columbia government offices
Maryland state government offices
Is Virginia Counseling Services still open?
Yes, at this time we are seeing clients face-to-face and virtually.
Should I still come in for my appointments?
You may with a few exceptions.
With social distancing and self quarantines being advised from authorities, we are giving the option for phone sessions and virtual sessions.
If you are sick, let us know and stay home! If you are having any symptoms, we can reschedule the appointment for a virtual or phone session.
We are taking all the necessary precautions in the offices, such as disinfecting office suites between client sessions, minimizing the amount of people coming in/out, and making sure people with any symptoms are not in the office.
Will my insurance company pay for sessions if I do teletherapy?
Insurance companies are reimbursing now for all distance therapy sessions! This has been a dramatic departure from prior policies where insurance companies did not pay for phone or virtual sessions. If you have any questions, make sure to contact your insurance company and confirm that your policy covers teletherapy services.
What kind of platforms are being used for virtual sessions?
We are using phone sessions, Google Meet, and Doxy.me
Is there an extra cost with virtual/phone sessions?
No there is not. The government and insurance companies are working together with mental health professionals to continue to provide as many services as possible to everyone. If you have any questions about teletherapy and if your insurance company covers it, please contact your insurance provider and ask them to make sure.
Are you taking new clients? Do I have to be in Northern Virginia to work with you?
With the use of technology, you do not have to be nearby to seek services. The only requirement is that you are a Virginia resident. Please contact us for availability.
Do you only work with substance abuse?
No. Although substance abuse is our speciality, we help people facing a variety of challenges. Contact us for more information!
