Most couples wait too long.
By the time they make an appointment, the same argument has happened a hundred times. The distance has been growing for months. Maybe years. They are not sure a therapist can actually help at this point.
That is usually not true. But it does mean you need someone who knows what they are doing.
Virginia Counseling Services offers couples counseling in Northern Virginia through Joseph Wall, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist whose entire clinical focus is relationships. Not a generalist who sees couples on Fridays. Someone for whom this is the whole job.
What Couples Counseling at VCS Looks Like
Couples counseling at VCS is not about keeping score or deciding who is right.
Joseph works from an attachment-based approach, which means the focus is on what is actually happening underneath the conflict. Most of the time, what looks like a communication problem is really a connection problem. Two people who stopped feeling safe with each other, or who never quite figured out how to be.
The work is real. It asks something of both people. And it moves.
Virtual sessions are available for couples in Virginia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. In-person sessions are available at the Burke, VA office.
Who This Is For
Couples come to VCS for a lot of different reasons.
Some are hitting a wall after years together and cannot figure out how to get past it. Some are navigating a specific crisis: infidelity, a major life change, a loss. Some are doing well and want to do better. Some are not sure if the relationship is worth saving and need a space to figure that out honestly.
All of those are real reasons to come in. None of them require the relationship to already be falling apart.
